HRRN AND KEENELAND SALES PARTNER TO CELEBRATE ‘WINNING COLORS WEEK’

 

 

LEXINGTON, KY (April 29, 2024) – Horse Racing Radio Network (HRRN), the award-winning broadcast organization based in Lexington, KY, announced today they will honor the accomplishments of 1988 Kentucky Derby heroine Winning Colors leading up to this year’s 150th renewal of the Run for the Roses.

 

‘Winning Colors Week’ presented by Keeneland Sales begins Monday, April 29 through Kentucky Derby day, May 4. Throughout the week, HRRN will pay tribute to Winning Colors across their full platform of shows, as well as on the network’s social media pages, website and e-newsletters. Listeners will enjoy replays of her biggest wins along with interviews and conversations looking back on her brilliant racing career.

 

All HRRN shows can be heard throughout North America on Sirius 162/XM 207, with the exception of HRRN’s Derby Countdown shows presented by Hill ‘n’ Dale which can be heard Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning from 8:00-10:00 a.m. ET on Sirius 161/XM 206. Live streaming and podcasts of all shows are made available on the network’s website, www.horseracingradio.net, and multiple podcast platforms. A three-time Keeneland Sales graduate, Winning Colors was purchased as a yearling by Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas at the 1986 Keeneland July Sale from the consignment of Echo Valley Horse Farm. Campaigned by the late Eugene Kline, the Kentucky bred daughter of Caro (IRE) tallied eight victories from nineteen career starts, with earnings of more than $1.5 million. In addition to her triumph over the boys in the 1988 Kentucky Derby, are wins in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks and Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby. Voted Eclipse Champion 3-year-old filly of 1988 and inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000, Winning Colors, was purchased by Gainesway Bloodstock Services for $4.1 million at the 1989 Keeneland November mixed sale, she would return to the Keeneland sales ring 5 years later as a member of the Gainesway Farm consignment where she would be purchased for $2 million by BBA (England) at the 1994 November mixed sale.

 

Upcoming ‘Horse Weeks’ presented by Keeneland Sales on HRRN include A.P. Indy Week recognizing the accomplishments of the 1992 Belmont Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Classic winner, June 3 – June 8.
